YouTube can be a confusing place for anyone, especially artists, but it is a wonderful tool that can be implemented in many ways. Tutorials, product reviews, timelapses are all things that YouTube can offer artists, most importantly however, is inspiration. Below I've compiled a list of online artists, mostly YouTubers to follow and seek inspiration and advice from. They are all individuals I have followed for a long time and received a lot of knowledge from.

Minnie Smalls

Minnie Smalls is an art youtuber that I especially respect because she is not afraid to admit mistakes and adjust her process so things run more smoothly. She creates many different kinds of videos but largely focuses on improving her practice and involving her viewers in the process. She works with watercolor and graphite on paper most often, depicting landscapes and nature that she has often experienced in her own life.

Robin Sealark

Robin Sealark is an independent artist and former art educator who often creates acrylic landscapes and seascapes. She encourages risk taking in art in order to continuously learn and evolve. This attitude is the main thing I have always taken away from her channel. She will also often discuss tips for artists to implement and other artists to seek inspiration from. As you can see from the photo I've included from her Instagram, she tries a lot of new things, including painting landscapes on pennies. She did this to challenge herself to make fewer but more meaningful marks to create a believable landscape.

Adventure Awaits Sha'an d'Athenes

Sha'an is a gouache and watercolor illustrator and author. She has a distinct style and her subject matter often consists of animals, landscapes, and other parts of nature. Sha'an has a clean style of creating and uses mostly a primary color palette. She is an artist who isn't afraid to discuss the business and planning sides of being an independent artist, a feature often glossed over by other artists. She also let's it be know when she is struggling and how she thinks critically to problem solve.

Audra Auclair Gouache Portrait

Audra Auclair is one of the best artists to go to for inspiration. She is known for her sketchbook tours filled with studies in various media. She uses gouache typically to create flowy, ethereal, and sometimes mythological creatures. She creates figure and portrait paintings and drawings the most in a soft style, implementing pinks and reds. She is also a figure on YouTube who talks openly about the business side of being an artist and also how to balance an artist's workload.

Merry Little Thoughts Chris Hong Gouache on Paper

Chris Hong is a gouache and watercolor painter who typically depicts stylized fantasy scenes and figures. She often uses clowns, elves, and other fairy tale creatures as subjects to create somewhat cutesy paintings. She has an excellent handling of watercolor, which I always like to watch to lower my anxiety of using watercolor (which tome is one of the hardest mediums). Chris often creates timelapse videos of her paintings being created with voice-overs answering questions, or explaining the process.

These are just five artists that I prefer among a sea of many that are posting content on YouTube and Instagram. Remember that it is important to seek inspiration and learn from historical traditional artists but it is also valuable to learn from artists online.
